Guess what’s back?! Did we finally hit the crop top limit? After years of tops getting shorter while pants get higher, there is simply nowhere higher for our tops to go. It didn’t become a shirt you actually wear outside, not just as an undershirt, until the 1950s! Then, the 90s brought a massive wave of minimalism and a huuuge tank top upgrade. Annnd who here remembers tank over tank over tank of the 2000s. Yeah, tank tops just kept getting longer and we wore them with super low-rise jeans, until the 2010s when we started doing the total opposite. We went from peplums to crops. All of this to say… the fashion pendulum is constantly swinging, and in 2026 the tank top is finally back back! The Popflex Twisty Top GO WITH THE FLOW TWISTY TOP I’ve been fighting for my life for sooo long to design a tank top that looks cool. I loved the asymmetrical, Greek Goddess vibe, so I decided to take that and… Popflexify it. I’m wearing the Popflex Twisty Top and I’m not saying this top is revolutionary but omg it makes my life sooo much easier! It has a built-in bra, and it would have been a whooole thing without one. And obvi I love the off the shoulder moment. I love the look of this with jeans orrr with matching Go With the Flow Pants if you love a set like I do! Ok so what do you think? One of the largest retailers in America is trying to silence me One of the largest corporations and retailers in America is not only selling a dupe of my patented Pirouette Skort design, but they also threatened to SUE ME for speaking up about it. Yeah. When I sent a cease and desist to stop selling the dupe, that’s the response I received from their legal team. On my birthday, btw. Here’s the dupe, the “Tutu Skort” by a brand called Gottex. I mean, they even had ZERO SHAME making the exact same color as my lilac Pirouette that went viral after Taylor Swift wore it. The other two color options are also exact copies of POPFLEX colors. Did they not think anyone would notice? Or do they just know they’re the big fish and bet on me doing nothing about it? Prob the latter. Nordstrom is worth 4 billion dollars. They have 54,000 employees and 351 stores in the US. But they chose to infringe on my patent instead of oh…idk… WORK WITH ME?! SHOP PIROUETTE SKORT Fun fact: I was granted the patent for this skort (my very first design patent!) on my birthday last year! The application process takes a lot of time and effort, which is one reason why they are not always an option for small businesses. And as you can see, a patent doesn’t always deter a big corporation from stealing a design. Sadly, my story is nothing new. Corporate America is full of twisted greed, where big corporations steal an independent designer’s creation and make money off of the product while the original designer goes unpaid. Instead, they pay their lawyers to gaslight and threaten to sue anyone who tries to fight back. But nah. Choosing my passion over my parents’ life plan Growing up a child of immigrant parents who escaped a war-torn country, my mom and dad instilled in my sister and I perseverance and resilience. They taught me to work hard, study hard and do everything with excellence…which made me a great student and obedient daughter…until the thing I wanted to do excellently, was not in their life plan for me. For so many years I felt so lost, so broken and so angry. It was a decision between my passion or my parents – and I chose my passion. It broke our relationship and to this day, remains the thing I still cry about every time I think about it, talk about it, or write about it. Like literally right now. Ugh. As I get older, as my parents get older, and as the past becomes more of a scar than a fresh wound, I find myself trying to heal by trying to understand them. They wanted my sister and I to be safe. To be financially secure. To not suffer. To have stability. Things that were robbed from from them. Telling my parents I was going to pursue fashion design was none of those things. But the more they told me NO the more it lit my fire. HBD to me and my first design patent! In honor of celebrating my birthday AND the one-year anniversary of my very first design patent, I wanna give a very special shoutout to SHEIN. Yeah, you read that right. We give credit where credit is due, right? If it weren’t for them stealing my Pirouette Skort design (ahem, twice), I wouldn’t have applied for my very first design patent. I wouldn’t have been granted that patent one year later, ON MY BIRTHDAY. Since then, we’ve now taken down 393 dupes of the Pirouette Skort alone. INSANE. Now, design patents are NOT easy to get. They’re incredibly expensive and the application process is extremely time consuming and confusing. It’s very difficult, which is why you don’t hear about many designers going this route.  That said, having a design patent is the most powerful tool I have in my pocket for protecting my rights as an independent designer. And I’ve simply had enough of dupers. Enough. I’m so happy to share that in 2024, I was also awarded a patent on my Corset Pirouette Dress, the Superbra®, the Sklegging, and the Hiking Superskort. I am so weirded out…dupe culture, exposed. Hey guys, Dupe culture = counterfeit culture. There, I said it. No one wants to hear it but it’s true, and it’s getting absolutely out of control. I’m sharing with you what’s been happening with me because I am terrified of the future of dupe culture, especially with its popularity being propelled by the use of AI. There is really no point in trying to explain any of this to you through writing…so I want you to watch this video. You have to see it to believe it. The video is about 5 min and 40 sec – kind of long – but trust me, you will want to watch all the way to the end. It just gets weirder and weirder… First, let’s set the stage. My Pirouette Skort was first stolen by SHEIN, twice, and then duped numerous times all over Amazon. I eventually was awarded a design patent for my skort in hopes of having some protection. Well, it’s only gotten astronomically worse after Taylor Swift wore it this spring. Grateful forever , however, the extra exposure opened the floodgates for the counterfeiters to hijack the opportunity. There are dupers coming out from every corner of the internet and I am getting so exhausted trying to whack-a-mole each one. Actually, it will probably get worse. AI is making it way WAY too easy to steal designs, falsify images, and trick consumers into buying fake, lower quality products. It’s a lawless place in the world of fashion and no one’s paying attention to these crimes except for me and my small team, who are often notified by you guys in the DMs. Thank you for watching out for me as this becomes a bigger and bigger problem.
