Why women are obsessed with pockets Hey guys! Have you ever wondered why pockets are so special to us? To women specifically. Buckle up – it’s time for a history lesson!   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Cassey Ho (@blogilates) The tea on pockets The lack of pockets in women’s clothing is more than just annoying – it’s actually a sexist and political women’s rights issue that dates back centuries. Traditionally throughout history, women stayed at home while the men worked outside. Since men were the ones who carried all the $, paperwork, and the keys to and from the house, tailors thought they were the only ones who needed practicality in their apparel. So what did women do? They had to tuck their handbags under the poof in their dresses! (Smart! We love a hidden pocket!) Except back then a pocket under a skirt had fatal implications. During the 16th & 17th century witch hunts, women who were burned at the stake for “being witches” were also accused of smuggling herbs, potions, and poisons in their, you guessed it, hidden pockets. Women were banned from having pockets Then during the French Revolution, women were banned from having pockets because they were seen as a secret way to hide revolutionary material! The idea was that if we take pockets away from women, we could take away their participation in politics too! At the beginning of the 17th century (think corsets and bustles), hidden pockets didn’t work anymore because you’d have to basically get undressed in public to access your belongings. Therefore, tie-on style “pockets” (aka mini pouches aka purses) were introduced. Fast fwd to the Victorian era. Women’s fashion was focused on tiny waists and looking ornate & delicate. Pockets were deemed too bulky bc they detracted from a woman’s figure, so this time around, pockets simply were not in style. Eventually, during the women’s suffrage movement, pockets actually became a symbol of women’s rights! In 1954, Christian Dior cemented the patriarchy of pockets by saying “Men have pockets to keep things in, women for decoration.” So that explains the superficial pocket stitchings on my middle school jeans and the super shallow pockets that I could never fit anything in. No wonder that in 2023 women still get excited over pockets! We’ve been denied them for centuries! I’m gonna keep celebrating my love of pockets not only bc they’re functional but bc they’re also a symbol of our autonomy & freedom. POPFLEX LOVES POCKETS Hey guys! Another one for the modest girlies! I really didn’t know what to expect after the release of my first ever sklegging but it turned out the right people saw it and completely sold it out! Thank you modest girlies for voicing your concerns with the lack of fashionable clothing options you have out there, and for actually backing it up by purchasing. (No really, thank you because oftentimes loud opinions don’t translate into sales and that could kill a small biz like mine.) And now, I have a second design for you! Modest dressing does not come natural to me but I actually really enjoy designing for it because it pushes me creatively. I love how the Bungee Sklegging turned out because not only is it sleek and sporty…it gets me even closer to pink ranger status This time, the sklegging comes in 3 inseams (25”, 27”, and 29”) so you can pick your perfect length! I hope you love because I would love to continue testing myself as a designer in the modest fashion space. This is My “Pinch Me” Moment And just like that, the 2023 BlogiFam Retreat is over. From permanent bracelets (apparently next year everyone wants tattoos now) to posing like Zara models in our denim on denim to a group GRWM to squealing with joy at seeing Saturn. I’m exhausted but filled.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Cassey Ho (@blogilates) During our fireside chat portion, I was asked what my “pinch me” moment has been and my answer was this: I never knew that the people and the energy in this room could ever be real. To be surrounded by passionate humans, battling through the challenges of growing a business together, but also soaking in the joys of seeing you guys wear POPFLEX proudly, it’s really a journey like no other. Growth drives me. I love it. I live for it. I like going fast and I want to go FASTER. But like with fitness, you can’t see progress without rest. It’s tough when you guys are excited, I’m excited, the team is excited and we want to do more more MORE for you! But the truth is, we need to learn to slow down before we break down. I care about all the people you see in these pics so much (plus 2 new mamas/soon-to-be mamas who were there in spirit) and it is my responsibility to keep everyone here strong and happy. The energy that we have right now must be protected and I’ll do everything in my power to keep it that way. Daily, things are changing, and keeping up with the demands of the business while taking care of fam is proving to be extremely difficult. It’s all new… every day is new…and every day feels like a test that keeps getting harder. A test you can’t study for. A test you have to ace. I don’t know all the answers but what I do know is that it begins with nurturing the hearts and souls of the people on the team first, and the rest, we’ll figure out together. And just like that, the 2023 BlogiFam Retreat is over. Chasing waterfalls in Switzerland 🇨🇭 Somehow fit in a Switzerland trip between a crazy photoshoot, a few product launches, moving out of our old office, and prepping for our annual company retreat this coming Monday…am I tired? Yes. But we made the choice to live this life and I’m grateful for it every day. Youtube invited Sam and I to their Zurich HQ to consult the engineers and designers on how to make a better product for creators, so it was firstly a work trip but we managed to squeeze in a little extra time to explore this charming country! We even got in a little fight about HOW MUCH exploration we could do in one day. But also, if I didn’t have Sam I’d be showing up at airports on the wrong days (yes it’s happened), missing flights while literally sitting at the gate (yeah that’s happened too), and getting caught by the authorities (soooo on this trip I jumped on a train thinking I had paid the fare and Sam wanted to check my ticket to make sure I did but I didn’t let him bc INDEPENDENT WOMAN and then when the ticket checkers went around I got in trouble…SO YAH I WAS WARNED AND IT STILL HAPPENED.) Switzerland exploration recap! Okay here are the highlights! The power of the Rhine Falls I saw a video of this platform next to Rhine Falls and knew we HAD to find it. I needed to feel the power! Riding the gondola to toboggan at Mt. Pilatus and seeing the Lucerne cows A lil scary going up but totally worth it!   Visiting Lauterbrunnen to see a town in the Swiss Alps with a dramatic waterfall backdrop Literally a fairytale town.   Old Town Zurich I cannot get over these natural water colors omg!   Alright now time to head back bc it’s about to be retreat time! I seriously love rompers and jumpsuits SO MUCH bc they save me SO MUCH TIME getting ready. I take FOREVER trying to find the perfect top to match to the perfect bottom, so dresses are great…except I don’t like how I can’t be as free as when I’m in shorts/pants. The POPFLEX Go with the Flow Jumpsuit can be dressed up or down or even just worn inside the house to lounge. It is SO COMFY. I’m wearing XS (recommend to size down) and the regular length. I’m 5’5”. You guys have lives outside of the gym and I wanna be there with you too. I’m starting with my favorite closet staple: a jumpsuit! The Go With The Flow Jumpsuit YOU GUYS. The Go with the Flow Jumpsuit is literally the most flattering and most comfortable thing I’ve EVER put on my body. The cut This is a wide-leg jumpsuit which means the lower half is super flowy and the top is more snatched. It has a wide, square-cut neckline and a racerback. You can dress it up or down and wear it literally anywhere. You have OPTIONS I love it so much that I had to make it in multiple inseams (petite, regular, tall) AND in a sleeveless and long sleeve version…WITH THUMBHOLES. This comes in XXS to 3X and is extremely stretchyyy! You can get your normal size if you like things loose or you can size down one if you want a little more waist snatch. I also made the inseams extra long so that you can wear it with heels, which is how I like to wear my jumpsuits! I’m wearing the XS in the regular inseam with heels. I’m 5’5”. Pockets! Duhh. But you know what makes her even more special? When I released my first design with a nip smoothing layer and no removable pads, y’all ate it up! The Celeste Mesh Bralette sold out so fast! But I noticed a range of reviews on the nip smoothing layer – some saying it was enough and others saying that their were still showing through! I getchu. We’ve all got diff headlight intensities. So with the launch of my new no mesh design the Cleo Crop Bralette, I wanted to test out a new feature: Optional pad pockets. Use it or don’t, but up to you. Some girlies love the rounded shape and extra coverage the pads give them so I’m putting pockets there in case you need them! If you don’t, don’t worry. But everyone gets that cushy nip smoothing layer regardless! This style comes in XXS to 3X, is meant to be a lower impact sports bralette, and I’m wearing size small! Cutting my bangs HOURS before the red carpet Hey guys! Remember when I said I’d vow to myself to dress up to my heart’s content at every event going forward? Okay well for this year’s Streamys my heart said BANGS so a few hours before the red carpet I decided to get my bangs cut and honestly – HONESTLY I don’t need to jump out of airplanes bc this is the type of risk that gets my adrenaline pumping .     View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Cassey Ho (@blogilates) I remember attending my first Streamys 10 years ago…can’t believe how much the online world has changed since then…and how much I’ve changed since then! Back in 2013 I was in the thick of Blogilates song challenges wearing “train insane or remain the same” neon-colored motivational shirts and my hair was nearly blonde! These days, I get to design cool products with you, girls now work out in skorts and skleggings, and my hair is black. What a time to be alive! At this year’s show, I had the honor of presenting a Streamy Award to someone I admire in the creator space. I was so happy to choose my friend Joanne (The Korean Vegan), whose voice soothed me throughout the pandemic with her soulful stories and beautiful cooking videos. But the best part is, over the past year we’ve become actual, real friends. It’s hard to make friends as adults because as you go through life, trusting the wrong people turns into getting burned, so you get cautious, you begin to lose trust in all people, and then you build up a wall to protect yourself from the bad ones only to keep the good ones out too. I’m so grateful for you Joanne! And so happy that we got to celebrate you and your amazingness last night with the entire internet community! Thank you Sam for being the best date! Thank you Jennifer and Jen-Ai for flying out to celebrate our POPFLEX nomination! Thank you Streamy Awards for a glamorous evening.
