Why We Make Continual Improvements to the Shakeology Formula

Why We Make Continual Improvements to the Shakeology Formula Since 2009, Shakeology has been a pioneer in the nutrition industry, continually evolving our formula to provide our customers with the absolute best way to get your daily dose of vital nutrients, all in a delicious shake. What sets Shakeology apart is its unwavering commitment to quality, with one goal in mind: to help you look and feel your healthiest. That’s why we take an uncompromising approach to sourcing and formulating Shakeology. Read on to learn how our formula has improved over time and why Shakeology continues to lead the industry after more than 15 years. What Makes the Shakeology Formula Different From Other Brands? Unlike other shake brands that buy pre-mixed ingredient blends from third-party suppliers, we meticulously select each and every ingredient for Shakeology’s superfood blends to make sure you get the greatest possible health benefits from every scoop. When brands rely on premade blends, they don’t have a say in each individual ingredient, including its amount, potency, or even where it comes from. This low-cost approach does not work for Shakeology. We care about every ingredient all the way from farm to bag and know you do, too. We also know that you are investing in your health. That’s why we have always prioritized quality over cost. Has Shakeology Changed Since It Launched in 2009? Over the years, we’ve updated the Shakeology formula in order to maintain an unparalleled level of nutrition and quality. As supply chains and growing conditions change, we refuse to make compromises when an ingredient, supplier, or process no longer meets our standards. Likewise, nutritional science is always advancing, and as it does, we evolve with it. We will continue to update Shakeology’s formula when change is the right thing to do for our customers, because we know the nutrition you put into your body is one of the most important daily decisions you can make. It’s why we’ve sold over a billion servings. What Goes into the Decisions to Update the Shakeology Formula? Every month, Shakeology co-creators Isabelle Daikeler and Darin Olien meet with our dedicated research and development (R&D) team to evaluate the current Shakeology formula and identify potential improvements. Some of the reasons they may consider updating the formula include: Ingredient quality: We constantly test our suppliers’ ingredients for contaminants, fillers, lookalikes, mold, heavy metals, and more. In fact, our tests are so stringent, suppliers have been known to set aside their best crops for us. And if suppliers can’t give us the quality we demand, we look elsewhere or remove it from Shakeology — even when our competitors don’t. Scientific evidence: New research findings on specific nutrients or ingredients and their potential benefits can often drive formula updates. Unlike most companies, Shakeology conducts clinical studies to better understand and improve our product’s health benefits. Consumer feedback: Shakeology takes customer satisfaction very seriously. Sometimes, we may modify the formula based on feedback regarding taste, texture, benefits, or any number of factors. What Recent Updates Have Been Made to the Shakeology Formula? Shakeology Original: Our last formula change to Original Shakeology was made in 2019 for Vegan flavors and 2020 for Whey flavors. This update removed oat protein, chia, and sacha inchi, and added more probiotics, fiber, flaxseed, and matcha, in order to improve the nutritional value of Shakeology while addressing contaminant concerns of certain ingredients. Heart & gut health: These formula changes boosted Shakeology’s dietary fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, and green tea phytonutrients to help better support gut and heart health. Gluten-free: We added a “gluten free” claim with the update. This came from removing oat protein from the Vegan formula and improving our testing so that we could label Shakeology “gluten free” with confidence. Although oats are naturally gluten-free, they can often be contaminated with gluten. Shakeology 0g Added Sugar: In 2024, we launched Shakeology 0g Added Sugar, which took countless hours to develop to ensure it has all the same benefits as Original Shakeology, tastes just as good, and uses high-quality ingredients, just like the original. You can learn about the formula differences here. The trickiest part of getting the 0g Added Sugar formula right was selecting the right natural sweetener to use in place of organic cane sugar, to provide the delicious taste our customers expect from Shakeology. We chose the highest-grade stevia, Reb M. It has the cleanest taste that’s most similar to sugar and is sourced from farmers who have learned how to grow and harvest stevia responsibly. The Reb M that we use is also non-GMO Project Verified. Shakeology Was Considered “Too Expensive to Make” When Shakeology launched in 2009, there was nothing else like it on the market, and despite dozens of copycats, it’s still that way today. Even though there were plenty of protein shakes out there, Shakeology is the original superfood shake, painstakingly crafted to deliver all-in-one, whole-food-based nutrition that people still don’t get from the average diet. When environmental advocate and supplement formulator Darin Olien (the world’s first superfood hunter) set out to create the highest-quality and most potent shake he could imagine, everyone told him it was too expensive to make. For Olien, Shakeology wasn’t just about sourcing the world’s healthiest superfoods. It was about finding the best crop quality as well. That’s when he was put in touch with co-formulator Isabelle Brousseau-Daikeler and Carl Daikeler, CEO of BODi, who, unbeknownst to him, were working toward a similar goal. “Carl said, ‘Don’t worry about cost. We’re not going to compromise on this formula,’” remembers Olien. It’s a promise that Shakeology still makes good on today. Why Are There Natural Flavors in Shakeology? Isn’t Darin Against Them? Shakeology co-creator Darin Olien is very outspoken about his distaste for many natural flavors, and it’s a viewpoint shared by everyone at Shakeology. In the U.S., natural flavors can contain additives and solvents that are considered natural and are generally recognized as safe by the FDA. However, just because they’re permitted by

8 Easy Ways to Eat More Protein Every Day

8 Easy Ways to Eat More Protein Every Day Getting enough protein in your diet isn’t always easy. The average person needs about 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, which amounts to around 58 grams per day for a 160-pound person. And if you’re working out regularly and looking to put on muscle mass, you’ll need even more than that — about 1.2 to 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, depending on your training. Luckily, there are a few simple swaps and tricks you can apply to increase your protein intake without overhauling your entire diet. Here’s how to eat more protein every day — no complicated macro tracking necessary. 1. Include Protein in Your Snacks Think of snacks as an opportunity to fit in more protein. This can actually be quite simple — it just takes a little planning to make sure you have some healthy snacks on hand when you get hungry. Here are a few easy ideas to bump up the protein content of your snacks: Hard-boiled eggs Cottage cheese or Greek yogurt with fruit Hummus and veggies An apple and nut butter Roasted chickpeas 2. Swap Legume-Based Pasta for Regular Pasta “Pasta” is practically synonymous with “carbs,” but legume-based pastas can offer more protein than you’ll find in regular wheat pasta. Banza Chickpea Pasta, for example, provides 14 grams of protein per serving (2 ounces of dry pasta), compared to around 9 grams of protein in the same amount of regular pasta. “Chickpea pasta is also rich in fiber,” says Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, virtual plant-based performance nutritionist. 3. Drink Your Protein It’s always ideal to get your protein from lean, whole food sources, as they provide other important micronutrients. However, if you consistently struggle to hit your protein goals, protein powder is an easy and efficient way to put a ~20-gram dent into your daily protein requirements. Plus, you can add in other protein-rich ingredients, like peanut butter or cottage cheese. There are tons of options available, from whey protein to plant-based protein sources like pea, soy, pumpkin, chia and flax. Beachbody Performance Recover comes in both whey and plant formulations and delivers more than 20 grams of high-quality protein per scoop while helping to reduce post-workout muscle soreness.* If you’re looking for a nutrition shake that’s high in protein but also provides key nutrients, Shakeology packs up to 17 grams of protein, as well as fiber, probiotics, and vitamins and minerals in each scoop — also available in an added-sugar-free formulation.* 4. Use Higher-Protein Whole Grains Whole grains provide carbohydrates and fiber, of course, but certain grains can also help you reach your protein goals for the day. Here are a few to try: Teff (10 grams per cup, cooked) Spelt (11 grams per cup, cooked) Amaranth (9 grams per cup, cooked) Kamut (10 grams per cup, cooked) Quinoa (8 grams per cup, cooked) By comparison, brown rice and oatmeal have 5 grams of protein per cup. (Both are still healthy options — they just provide less protein per serving.) These whole grain sources of protein can be added to salads, buddha bowls, soups, stews, and chili or used in place of rice in any recipe that calls for it, Sass says. 5. Opt for Soy-Based or Pea-Based Milk Alternatives Dairy-free milk alternatives are a great option if you’re following a plant-based diet, or if you have a lactose allergy or intolerance. But not all milk alternatives provide as much protein as dairy does. A cup of skim milk has 8 grams of protein, but oat milk has 3 grams and almond milk has just one gram. Soy milk, on the other hand, has about 7 grams of protein per cup, and pea milk provides about 8 grams of protein per cup. 6. Think Beyond a Smoothie Adding protein powder to your smoothie is an obvious play, but there are so many other ways to sneak it in. “At breakfast, you can add it to oatmeal, overnight oats, or acai bowls, blend into pancake batter, breakfast cookies and other baked goods, or incorporate into energy balls,” suggests Sass. Unflavored protein powder can also be used in savory dishes like soups, salad dressings, or bread recipes. 7. Eat the Entire Egg Did you know that almost half of the protein found in a whole egg comes from the egg yolk? Yolks sometimes get a bad rap, but in moderation, they can definitely be part of a balanced diet. Bonus: Many of the nutrients in eggs are in the yolk, including choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin. 8. Make Friends With Beans and Pulses “Beans and their pulse counterparts — lentils, peas, and chickpeas — may be the most underrated superfoods on the planet,” Sass says. They’re one of the best lean protein sources out there — lentils, black beans, and chickpeas all provide 16 grams of protein per cup. Pulses are also an excellent source of fiber per cup and provide nutrients like folate, potassium, and iron. The post 8 Easy Ways to Eat More Protein Every Day appeared first on BODi. Meet the New Shakeology 0g Added Sugar. It’s OMG Amazing

Meet the New Shakeology 0g Added Sugar. It’s OMG Amazing Get ready to shake up your wellness routine. Introducing Shakeology 0g Added Sugar — a delicious new way to get the superfood nutrition your body needs.  Now you can enjoy Shakeology with 0g added sugar, in our two bestselling flavors, Chocolate (plant-based vegan or whey) and Vanilla (plant-based vegan).   Plus, you can still enjoy the same Shakeology Original formula you know and love.  What Makes Shakeology 0g Added Sugar So Special?  If you’ve been trying to cut back on added sugar, Shakeology 0g Added Sugar helps you achieve your nutrition goals without compromising the taste, benefits, and quality you expect.  “Shakeology 0g Added Sugar offers the same powerful blends and benefits as the original. It tastes just as delicious and is formulated with the same attention to the potency and quality of our ingredients,” explains Shakeology co-creator, Isabelle Daikeler.  “We put countless hours of work into selecting the right stevia from the right suppliers,” says Shakeology co-creator and superfood hunter Darin Olien. According to Olien, the stevia leaf has been used for centuries by the Guaraní people of Paraguay. When the world’s demand for it surged, the plant became critically endangered in the wild.  “Now suppliers have learned how to grow and harvest it responsibly, which is extremely important to us,” he explains.    “We chose the highest-grade stevia, Reb M. It has the cleanest taste that’s most similar to sugar. Ours is also non-GMO Project Verified,” says Olien.  “With only 5g of organic cane sugar in the original formula,” says Daikeler, “Darin and I have always been at peace with the type and amount of sugar in Shakeology. But we wanted to give you a choice: with or without added cane sugar.”  That’s just one way we’re always updating and evolving our formula to provide the greatest possible benefits to our customers, she says.  What Is Shakeology?  Shakeology is the original superfood shake, and one of the only shakes that delivers clinically tested health benefits to help you feel amazing.   Think of it as your ultimate morning multitasker: a delectable, creamy, and convenient shake that helps give more of what you need to empower your day. What’s Inside Shakeology?  Shakeology provides protein, vitamins, minerals, prebiotic fiber, probiotics, antioxidants, supergreens, adaptogens, mushrooms, digestive enzymes, and more in one daily scoop of whole-food-based nutrition. How Does Shakeology Work? We craft our five powerful superfood blends with something called Nutrient Synergy: By pairing the right ingredients in optimal amounts, they have a more powerful effect on the body together than each would on its own. It’s just one reason why our superfood shake helps support so many whole-body health benefits, like:* Healthy energy levels   Gut health, digestion, & regularity    Healthy weight loss    Reduced junk-food cravings    Lean muscle support    Nutrient gaps    A healthy immune system  Overall health & well-being  For people on GLP–1 drugs who are trying to lose weight, Shakeology can help you maintain lean muscle and get the nutrition you need.   What Is the Difference Between Shakeology Original and Shakeology 0g Added Sugar?  While the two formulas are nearly identical to each other, there are a few key differences.   Calories: Because we removed the added sugar from Shakeology 0g Added Sugar, it has a slightly lower calorie count: 130–140 calories, depending on the flavor, compared with 160–170 in Shakeology Original.   Keto-friendly: Shakeology 0g Added Sugar is not designed for the keto diet and is not considered a keto product. However, with only 4g net carbs per serving, it can be compatible with a keto diet, so long as your macronutrient profile stays within the typical 70% fat, 25% protein, and 5% carbohydrate ratio required to maintain ketosis.  Sweeteners: None of Shakeology’s formulas contains artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols. Shakeology 0g Added Sugar is sweetened with monk fruit and stevia. Shakeology Original uses monk fruit, stevia, and organic cane sugar.  Low-glycemic index: Shakeology Original is low-glycemic, meaning its carbohydrates are digested more slowly, thus having only a small impact on your blood sugar levels. Shakeology 0g Added Sugar also has a minimal effect on blood sugar levels. However, because it has no added cane sugar, it cannot be tested or qualify as a low-glycemic-index product.    Superfoods: Bilberry and acerola cherry have been removed from the new 0g Added Sugar formula, due to the small amount of sugar that’s added during the drying process to prevent the fruit powder from sticking together. The amounts of blueberry and rose hips have been increased in order to maintain similar overall superfruit levels as Shakeology Original.  Fiber: Instead of pea fiber and yacon, Shakeology 0g Added Sugar contains gum acacia, an easily digestible prebiotic fiber that comes from the sap of the acacia tree in Africa. Chocolate Shakeology 0g Added Sugar now contains 7g fiber instead of 6g. All other flavors contain 6g fiber.   Flavors: Shakeology 0g Added Sugar is currently available in our two bestselling flavors: Chocolate (plant-based vegan or whey) and Vanilla (plant-based vegan). Shakeology Original comes in six flavors: Cookies & Creamy (plant-based vegan), Chocolate (plant-based vegan or whey), Vanilla (plant-based vegan or whey), Café Latte (plant-based vegan), Snickerdoodle (plant-based vegan), and Tropical Strawberry (plant-based vegan).  Why You Can Always Put Your Trust in Shakeology No matter what may change in our Shakeology formulas, there are a few things that will always remain the same.   When Shakeology launched in 2013, our goal was to create the most potent, efficacious, and highest-quality nutrition shake we could imagine. And we will never lower those standards.  Unlike other shakes and supplements on the market, Shakeology is the result of thousands of hours of research, formulating, sourcing, testing, clinical trials, and industry-leading quality assurance, to make sure you get the benefits and quality we promise: High-quality ingredients Rigorously tested for quality, purity, & potency     Clinically tested benefits    Consciously sourced World-class suppliers Third-party lab verified We know you don’t always have time to eat as perfectly as you’d like. Likewise, you can’t always research every ingredient that goes
