The Importance of Complete Protein in Your Diet: Recommendations and Sources

The Importance of Complete Protein in Your Diet: Recommendations and Sources Protein is one of the essential macronutrients your body needs for optimal health, muscle development, and recovery. But not all proteins are created equal. For those serious about improving health, fitness, and longevity, understanding the role of complete protein and the critical amino acids your body requires is key. In this blog post, we’ll dive into why complete protein matters, break down Dr. Peter Attia’s protein recommendations for longevity, and explore the amino acids crucial for muscle growth, with a special focus on leucine. What is a Complete Protein? Complete proteins contain all nine essential amino acids your body cannot produce on its own. These amino acids must come from your diet and are critical for processes like muscle repair, hormone regulation, and immune function. The nine essential amino acids include: Histidine Isoleucine Leucine Lysine Methionine Phenylalanine Threonine Tryptophan Valine Why Is Complete Protein So Important? Complete proteins provide your body with the full range of amino acids required for optimal health and muscle growth. When your body has access to all the essential amino acids, it can perform better in muscle protein synthesis (MPS)—a critical process for muscle repair and growth. Ensuring your diet includes enough complete protein is essential if you’re serious about building strength, maintaining muscle mass as you age, or simply improving your overall health. Protein Recommendations Based on Dr. Peter Attia’s Principles Dr. Peter Attia, a prominent advocate for longevity and healthspan, emphasizes the importance of eating enough protein—especially complete protein—to maintain muscle mass as you age. His recommendations for daily protein intake are based on ideal body weight rather than total weight. Here’s a simple guideline based on his principles: Aim for 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight per day. For example, if your ideal weight is 150 lbs, your daily protein intake should be around 150 grams of protein. This level of protein intake is particularly important for anyone looking to build or preserve lean muscle mass, improve recovery from workouts, and fend off age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia). If you need help identifying your ideal body and optimal protein intake, talk to your coach at Double Edge Fitness. With a current InBody scan we can guide you in the right direction on your protein intake! Leucine: A Critical Amino Acid for Muscle Growth Among the nine essential amino acids, leucine plays a vital role in muscle growth. Leucine is one of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and acts as a key trigger for muscle protein synthesis. Without sufficient leucine, even a high-protein meal might not maximize muscle-building processes. Research suggests that to optimally stimulate muscle protein synthesis, a meal should contain about 2.5-3 grams of leucine. Leucine-Rich Foods and Supplements To ensure you’re getting enough leucine in your diet, choose foods high in this amino acid. Here are some of the best sources of leucine: Whole Foods Chicken breast: A great source of complete protein with about 1.5 grams of leucine per 100 grams. Beef: Lean cuts of beef contain about 1.7 grams of leucine per 100 grams. Eggs: One large egg provides around 0.5 grams of leucine. Salmon: This fatty fish offers about 1.6 grams of leucine per 100 grams. Greek yogurt: A cup of Greek yogurt has around 1.2 grams of leucine. Cottage cheese: Packed with protein, cottage cheese delivers about 1.4 grams of leucine per 100 grams. Supplements Whey Protein: Whey is one of the highest sources of leucine, with 2.5-3 grams of leucine per serving (around 25 grams of protein). It’s an excellent post-workout choice to spike muscle protein synthesis. Casein Protein: While casein digests more slowly than whey, it also contains about 2-3 grams of leucine per serving. BCAA Supplements: These provide a concentrated source of leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAA supplements can be useful for those looking to increase their leucine intake specifically. Challenges for Vegetarians and Protein Optimization For vegetarians, getting enough complete protein can be more challenging since most plant-based foods do not provide all nine essential amino acids. However, with the right approach, vegetarians can still optimize their protein intake and ensure they’re getting all the essential amino acids. Why It’s Hard for Vegetarians to Get Enough Complete Protein Incomplete Amino Acids: Most plant-based protein sources lack one or more essential amino acids, which means vegetarians must combine foods to get a complete protein. Lower Bioavailability: Plant proteins may be harder to digest and absorb compared to animal proteins, meaning vegetarians need to consume more protein overall to achieve the same effects. Tips for Optimizing Protein Intake as a Vegetarian Combine Complementary Proteins: Pairing different plant-based foods ensures you get all essential amino acids. Some good combinations include: Rice and Beans: Together, they form a complete protein. Hummus and Whole Wheat Pita: Another combination that provides all essential amino acids. Quinoa and Lentils: Both high in protein and complement each other well. Focus on High-Protein Plant Foods: Quinoa: A complete protein that contains all nine essential amino acids. Chia and Hemp Seeds: Rich in essential fatty acids and contain all amino acids. Soy Products: Tofu, tempeh, and edamame are excellent sources of complete proteins. Lentils and Chickpeas: While not complete proteins on their own, they are good sources of plant protein and can be combined with grains for a complete amino acid profile. Incorporate Protein-Rich Supplements: Pea Protein: A great plant-based protein powder option that is relatively high in leucine. Soy Protein: Provides a complete amino acid profile and can be a great protein supplement for vegetarians. BCAAs: Vegetarians can also use branched-chain amino acid supplements to ensure they are getting enough leucine to stimulate muscle protein synthesis. Track Protein Intake: Keep track of how much protein you’re consuming daily to ensure you’re meeting your protein goals, especially when plant-based sources are involved. The Principles of Longevity by Dr. Peter Attia and How Double Edge Fitness Can Enhance Your Health Span

The Principles of Longevity by Dr. Peter Attia and How Double Edge Fitness Can Enhance Your Health Span Dr. Peter Attia’s Principles of Longevity In recent years, the conversation around longevity has shifted from simply increasing lifespan to improving health span—the period of life during which we are healthy, active, and free from chronic illness. Dr. Peter Attia, a leading voice in this movement, has focused on how we can optimize our physical and mental capabilities to ensure that we not only live longer but live better. At Double Edge Fitness, we share this mission, and we are uniquely positioned to help you achieve your own health span goals. Dr. Attia’s approach to longevity centers on several key areas: Exercise as the Foundation:Dr. Attia emphasizes that exercise isn’t just about burning calories—it’s about setting a foundation for long-term health. He advocates for focusing on strength, stability, endurance, and metabolic conditioning. These are not only important for your fitness today, but they will also enable you to continue doing the things you love as you age. His principle is to train not just for immediate benefits but for decades of vitality ahead. Metabolic Health:Maintaining metabolic health is crucial for longevity. By focusing on insulin sensitivity, body composition, and reducing chronic inflammation, you can prevent many age-related diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular issues. Dr. Attia points out that improving metabolic health can significantly enhance both your health span and lifespan. Cognitive and Emotional Resilience:Dr. Attia believes mental and emotional well-being is just as critical as physical health. Practices like stress management, mindfulness, and continuous cognitive engagement can protect your brain as you age. These factors ensure that as your body stays strong, so does your mind. Optimizing Recovery:Dr. Attia stresses the importance of recovery, particularly through sleep. High-quality sleep is essential for maintaining cognitive function, emotional balance, and physical recovery. Your body and mind require rest to regenerate and perform at their best, especially over the long term. Personalized Nutrition:Dr. Attia takes a personalized approach to nutrition, acknowledging that everyone’s optimal diet might differ. He encourages people to experiment and find the nutritional strategies that best support their metabolic health, improve energy levels, and enhance longevity. How Double Edge Fitness Aligns with These Principles At Double Edge Fitness, we’ve built our approach around these same principles of longevity. While the two winners had a couple of hiccups, both Horvath and Vellner accumulated enough points to emerge victorious and secure lucrative paydays. Here’s an event-by-event breakdown of how each champion performed: Laura Horvath 2023 Rogue Invitational Event by Event Performance Other than struggling to make it through “10th Inning” at the start of Day Two, Horvath had little trouble completing the other eight events on the schedule. In fact, she secured a top-three finish in six of the nine events, including wins in “The Circus,” “Hulk Hands,” and “The Cleanup.” Of course, the 2023 CrossFit Games winner needed every point to fend off six-time Fittest Woman on Earth® Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr, who showed no rust in her first competition since 2021. Ultimately, though, Horvath outlasted her peer in what proved to be a neck-and-neck battle till the very end. That string of standout performances helped him climb atop the leaderboard and maintain a slim lead over Adler, who ultimately came up 20 points shy of the No. 1 spot. Vellner, a seven-time CrossFit Games competitor who won the Rogue Invitational in 2020, delivered his best performance in “Seat at the Bar.” The Canadian native took home second in the event by completing the 20-15-10 rep scheme of log muscle ups, followed by five back squats of 375 pounds (170 kilograms) in six minutes and 47 seconds. He also demonstrated excellent strength by tying Tudor Magda for the second-highest deadlift with a 595-pound (270-kilogram) pull on Event No. 6. Finishing ahead of the pack earned them each a record-setting prize purse of $280,304.30. Considering the second-place finishers took home roughly a third of that amount ($97,780.57), it’s safe to say the 2023 Rogue Invitational winners can appreciate all the blood, sweat, and tears they poured into their training to prepare for the four-day showdown at Dell Diamond. CrossFit competitors will get a chance to showcase their skills in a single event on Thursday, Oct. 26. Event 1: Texas Heavy Presented by GORUCK, the first event will begin at 6 p.m. CDT. Although Rogue did not provide any additional details about “Texas Heavy,” based on the sponsor — GORUCK, known for designing weighted vests, sandbags, and rucksacks — it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a ruck, heavy sand-filled medicine ball, or sand-filled kettlebell incorporated into Event No. 1. The 2022 Rogue Invitational could provide a hint of what’s in store, as the Texas Trail event required competitors to complete a 4.2-mile run that included 1.2 miles with a ruck. The men had to carry a 30-pound (13.6-kilogram) ruck, with the women utilizing a 20-pound (9.1-kilogram) version. Day Two — Friday, Oct. 27 Competitors will have to face two tough challenges on the second day of the 2023 Rogue Invitational. Here’s a breakdown of each event: Event 2: Seat at the Bar Time will be of the essence when 1 p.m. hits. “Seat at the Bar” will test the athletes’ strength and endurance with a simple (but strenuous) workout based around the log muscle-up. Rogue provided the following details about the structure of Event No. 2: 20-15-10 reps (Men) 15-10-5 reps (Women) In addition, the athletes will have to complete five back squats after each round, with males working with 375 pounds (170.1 kilograms) and females squatting 260 pounds (118 kilograms). Event 3: The Circus Once strongman athletes wrap up The Iron Bull Sled Pull, the focus will shift back to CrossFit with an event that makes the Concept2 RowErg the star of the show. “The Circus” consists of three rounds for time of the following exercises: Ski Erg — 40 calories for men / 32 for women Five Single-Arm Strongman Dumbbell Shoulder to Overhead per side — 100 pounds (45.4 kilograms) for men / 70 pounds (31.8 kilograms) for women Killer Cage — down and back Needless to say, the athletes face a daunting task to complete all three tasks three times Thursday evening. Event 4: 10th Inning Although it only includes three movements, the first event of Day Three will surely provide more than enough of a conditioning challenge for the competitors. The aptly-named “10th Inning” event consists of 10 rounds of the following exercises: Ring Muscle-up — 4 reps Handstand Push-up — 8 reps Power Snatch — 12 reps The men must complete the power snatches with 95 pounds (43 kilograms). Meanwhile, the women will be tasked with completing this classic Olympic lift with 65 pounds (29.5 kilograms). Event 5: The Duel III While no specifics were provided about this event, the 2021 Rogue Invitational included an event called “The Duel” in which competitors had to complete the following workout as quickly as possible: 60 heavy double-unders Three squat snatches — 205 pounds (93 kilograms) for men; 145 pounds (65.8 kilograms) for women One sandbag load to platform — 250 pounds (113.4 kilograms) for men; 165 pounds (74.8 kilograms) for women Meanwhile, the 2022 CrossFit Rogue Invitational featured an elimination-style, multi-round event called “The Duel II” in which competitors had to complete a legless rope climb, 10 overhead squats, and a sandbag carry. Will “The Duel III” follow a similar path as those previous iterations? Or do workout programmers and veteran CrossFit Games Chris Spealler Josh Bridges have a surprise up their sleeves? Event 6: Max Deadlift Pure strength and precise technique will be needed to emerge victorious at the end of Day Three. CrossFit Legend Josh Bridges Crushes Full-Body Workout Two Weeks Out From 2023 Rogue Invitational Despite being five years removed from his last CrossFit Games appearance, Josh Bridges remains one of the most recognizable and well-respected athletes in the sport. In fact, even though the three-time CrossFit Regionals champion hasn’t competed in the Games since 2018, he still looks more than capable of keeping up with fellow legends like four-time Fittest Man on Earth® Rich Froning Jr. and 2009 CrossFit Games winner Mikko Salo. Bridges will have an opportunity to showcase the strength, stamina, and resolve that made him a fan favorite later this month at the 2023 Rogue Invitational in Round Rock, Texas. Set to take place from Oct. 27-29, the highly anticipated competition will feature a Legends showcase that should provide plenty of highlight-worthy moments over the course of three days. With another trip to Dell Diamond on the docket, Bridges took his training to another level in a video posted on his YouTube channel on Oct. 15, 2023. More from Breaking Muscle: Is CrossFit Bad for You? 4 Points to Consider Before Stepping into a Box The Full-Body HIIT Workout for Quick Conditioning In the latest episode of his “Paying the Man” vlog series, the former U.S. Navy Seal put together a full-body workout that forced each of the participants to dig deep from start to finish. Before Bridges and his two training partners, Tayler and Andrew Patterson, began the main part of the session, they completed a “warm-up workout” that proved far more taxing than hitting the treadmill or rower for a few minutes. To prepare for the HIIT-style workout to follow, the trio performed six rounds of a 100-foot sled push and eight bar muscle-ups. Combining a heavy sled push (371 pounds/168 kilograms) with a gymnastics-inspired pull-up variation provided the perfect mix of strength and cardio training that set the tone for the rest of the session. Plus, utilizing a 1:1 work-to-rest ratio between rounds gave sufficient time for Bridges and his partners to recover as they trained outside under the heat of the Denver sun. With the initial part of the workout complete, the group hit the stationary bike for a few minutes before ramping up the intensity with a four-part circuit that targeted just about every major muscle group. Rather than trying to hit a specific number of reps or rounds, the six-time CrossFit Games athlete utilized the AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) approach for the 30-minute workout. “I love AMRAPs because it’s just you against the clock,” Bridges explained. “It’s not a set ‘how much work you’re going to get done,’ it’s a set ‘time you’re going to do work.’ So everyone has the same amount of time, but who’s willing to push harder during the work to get the more reps in, to get more work in.” Bridges made sure to cover all his bases by selecting two conditioning exercises (the Jacobs Ladder and a 200-meter run), one lower body movement (back squat), and one upper body movement (flat dumbbell bench press). View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rogue Invitational (@rogueinvitational) More from Breaking Muscle: Best CrossFit Shoes for Flat Feet, Wide Feet, and More (2023) 2023 Rogue Strongman Invitational Complete Event Lineup The workout didn’t necessarily focus on building strength or utilizing heavy loads. Instead, Bridges utilized a relatively light weight (70 pounds/31.7 kilograms) to complete 10 reps on the dumbbell bench press. He followed the same strategy with the squats, opting for 195 pounds (88.4 kilograms) so he could hit all 15 reps on every set. For context on his output, the experienced athlete disclosed that he weighed 165 pounds (74.8 kilograms) several days prior to the session. However, sandwiching the two muscle-building exercises between the Jacobs Ladder and 200-meter run proved to be particularly challenging. “That workout is a trap because where you make and lose time is on the bench and squats, and everything else is like just maintain a pace,” Bridges explained. “It’s not long enough to gather spare seconds for the effort.” Covered in sweat and clearly fatigued from the four-exercise HIIT session, it’s clear his style of programming paid off for everyone involved. Bridges, who impressively finished in 13th place at the 2016 Games as both the oldest (33) and shortest (5-foot 2-inch) Individual Mens competitor, delivered some words of wisdom from his home gym once the workout concluded. “Like any sport, it takes time to realize who you are as an athlete and where you should push, where you shouldn’t push, and where you should back off,” he explained. “It’s really fun getting to share these types of workouts and showing her [Tayler] what kind of athlete she can become.” 30-Minute Full-Body AMRAP Workout Jacobs Ladder – 100 feet Flat Dumbbell Bench Press – 10 reps Back Squat – 15 reps Run — 200 meters (656 feet) While Bridges may no longer be “in his prime,” the 41-year-old most certainly still has the mindset of a champion. And after representing the CrossFit Legends well a year ago, he looks ready to give the Round Rock crowd another classic performance at the 2023 Rogue Invitational. CrossFit HQ Announces Major Changes to Adaptive and Age-Group Divisions for 2024 Season

CrossFit HQ Announces Major Changes to Adaptive and Age-Group Divisions for 2024 Season Shortly after switching the location of the 2024 CrossFit Games from Madison, Wisconsin to Fort Worth, Texas, CrossFit HQ has shifted gears yet again by making significant changes for the upcoming season. However, unlike the decision to host the sport’s preeminent event at Dickie’s Arena next year, choosing to overhaul the Adaptive and Age-Group divisions will likely be met with more criticism than excitement.  On Oct. 10, 2023, CrossFit HQ delivered a press release detailing major changes for the 2024 season.  “CrossFit is excited to announce three new partnerships that will help grow the CrossFit Games championship competition and create new opportunities to shine a spotlight on athletes across all divisions. WheelWOD Games, Pit Teen Throwdown, and Legends Championship will host the adaptive and age-group championships for the 2024 CrossFit Games season. The change will dramatically increase the number of masters and teenage athletes competing in the finals, nearly double the number of divisions for adaptive athletes, and provide a chance for CrossFit to evolve its competition model to make the CrossFit Games internationally scalable in the future.”  View this post on Instagram A post shared by CrossFit Games (@crossfitgames) More from Breaking Muscle: Adapting and Thriving: An Interview with CrossFit Games Athlete Amy Bream Best Kettlebells for CrossFit, Beginners, and More Although the partnerships will give more athletes a chance to participate, taking away the opportunity for competitors in the Adaptive and Age-Group divisions to share the same stage as the top Individual and Team performers in the championship round represents an obvious drawback. Instead, qualifying Masters athletes (ages 35-65+) will move through the online Quarterfinals and Semifinals before advancing to the Legends Championship for an in-person Final. While the 2023 Legends Championship will take place in Tempe, Arizona from Dec. 7-10, it is unclear if the 2024 edition will happen in the same location.  Athletes in the Teens division (ages 14-17) will follow the traditional CrossFit Games stages (Open, Quarterfinals, and Semifinals) before wrapping up their season at the Pit Teen Throwdown. The 2024 edition will still take place in Three Rivers, Michigan, which has hosted the annual fitness competition for several years.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ellie Tinker (@ellietinker_cf) More from Breaking Muscle: Is CrossFit Bad for You? 4 Points to Consider Before Stepping into a Box Best Weightlifting Belts for CrossFit, Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, and More Per the CrossFit press release: “The Pit Teen Throwdown offers a highly competitive arena for world-class athletes to test their skill, strength, and stamina against their peers,” CrossFit HQ wrote in the press release. “Big names in the sport have competed in the Throwdown in the past such as 2023 Rookie of the Year Olivia Kerstetter and 2022’s second-Fittest Woman on Earth Mal O’Brien.”  The 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games, which took place in August, crowned several new champions in the Teen division, including: Maria Granizo (14-15 Girls) Jeremie Jourdan (14-15 Boys) Lucy McGonigle (16-17 Girls) Ty Jenkins (16-17 Boys) Moving forward, though, talented youngsters like Granizo and Jourdan will have to settle for showcasing their strength, agility, and fitness at the Pit Teen Throwdown rather than at what should be a jam-packed Dickie’s Arena. View this post on Instagram A post shared by WheelWOD (@wheelwod) More from Breaking Muscle: CrossFit Games Athletes, Powerlifting Champion Among Big Names to Join Gladiator TV Series Reboot Best Budget Barbells for CrossFit, Powerlifting, and More Meanwhile, the entire Adaptive athlete season will be run exclusively by WheelWOD, an organization that brings more than a decade of experience hosting annual competitions. The new partnership will not only expand the number of competitive divisions from eight to 15, but it will also allow athletes from all 15 to have a chance to advance to the in-person final. The current Adaptive divisions include: Vision Intellectual Seated With Hip Function Seated Without Hip Function Short Stature Multi Extremity Lower Extremity Upper Extremity Considering only three divisions (Multi Extremity, Lower Extremity, and Upper Extremity) moved on to the final at the most recent CrossFit Games, the new format should be viewed positively from a participation perspective — especially with WheelWOD offering additional divisions such as Sensory (which includes both vision and hearing) and more specific Upper and Lower Extremity categories as defined by an athlete’s “points of contact” with their relevant limbs. With the 2023 WheelWOD Games taking place in Raleigh, North Carolina from Nov. 30-Dec. 3, Adaptive athletes can get a hint of what next year’s competition might look like. However, CrossFit HQ said the dates and location for 2024 will be shared at a later time. Despite shifting directions in such considerable fashion, CrossFit General Manager of Sport and Education Dave Castro believes the changes “will benefit each division in significant ways, most importantly more than doubling qualifying spots for masters and teens and allowing every adaptive division a place at the in-person championship.”  Only time will tell whether the athletes affected share the same sentiment. However, there’s little doubt that the 2024 CrossFit Games will look quite different, and after delivering substantial announcements in successive months, don’t be surprised if more changes are unveiled moving forward. CrossFit Games Athletes, Powerlifting Champion Among Big Names to Join Gladiator TV Series Reboot

CrossFit Games Athletes, Powerlifting Champion Among Big Names to Join Gladiator TV Series Reboot  Perhaps the third time will be the charm for the Australian version of the Gladiators television series. After a previous attempt to revive the show lasted just one season, producers made sure there will be no shortage of star power for the 2024 reboot by assembling a loaded lineup that officially includes four CrossFit Games athletes and a powerlifting champion. On Sept. 26, 2023, the show’s official Instagram account posted a photo of the cast for the upcoming revival. For fans of the CrossFit Games, Gladiators will provide an opportunity to watch some of Australia’s top athletes compete in a much different arena. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gladiators (@gladiatorstv) More from Breaking Muscle: Adapting and Thriving: An Interview with CrossFit Games Athlete Amy Bream Laura Horvath Discussed Being Role Model After Winning 2023 CrossFit Games Among the notable names is veteran Khan Porter, who finished second nationally in 2020. The lone male CrossFit Games competitor to get selected, he’ll be joined by fellow CrossFit athletes Alethea Boon, Katelin van Zyl, and Harriet Roberts.  Besides being a five-year CrossFit Games competitor, Boon also represented her country at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and 2002 as an elite gymnast. Plus, the New Zealand native showcased her versatility by competing in her third Commonwealth Games as an Olympic weightlifter in the under-58-kilogram weight category. She impressively made the switch 16 years after her last appearance as a gymnast.   Meanwhile, the 31-year-old Van Zyl currently ranks 25th worldwide among women and second in Australia behind only Ellie Turner (ninth worldwide). No stranger to contact sports, she made the switch to CrossFit after a jaw injury ended her professional hockey career. Given the high-impact nature of many of the challenges, Gladiators could prove to be the perfect fit for Van Zyl, who finished fourth at the 2023 CrossFit Oceania Semifinal. Just like it did in the United States, the show garnered a loyal audience in Australia during its three-season run thanks to its unique setup and charismatic cast. Although a 2008 revival ultimately ended after 15 episodes, the third edition has the potential to stick around based on the collective talent of the 12-person cast. After all, the newest additions to the Gladiator family – including Ironman competitor Jeff Kenny and former pro rugby player Sandor Earl – come with some impressive credentials.  In addition to CrossFit, the show will also shine the spotlight on the sports of bodybuilding and powerlifting by featuring Kwame Duah and Jaymi Morris. The former has nearly 400,000 followers on Instagram and the advantage of having competed on the Ninja Warrior series. The latter is a fierce competitor of her own with a personal-best raw total of 914.9 pounds.  https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq-sBroPNMB/?img_index=1 More from Breaking Muscle: Hafthor Björnsson Puts Powerlifting on Pause for Return to Strongman Competition Best Barbells of 2023 for Powerlifting, CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, and More Morris has been one of Australia’s top female lifters for nearly two years, capturing first place in each of her last six competitions. The New South Wales native most recently took home top honors with a raw deadlift of 551.1 pounds at the Conquerer of the Coast competition on Aug. 5, 2023.  For Gladiators fans, the 2024 reboot will still feature classic events like Hang Tough, Duel, The Wall, Power Ball, Pyramid, and The Eliminator. However, the show will have a fresh feel with a strong cast of stars and the co-host duo of Beau Ryan (who hosts the Amazing Race) and Liz Ellis.  Here is the complete Gladiator lineup for the 2024 reboot:  Alethea Boon (“Elektra”) – Five-time CrossFit Games Athlete Blessings Chilufya (“Cyclone”) – F45 Trainer Chanique Greyling (“Halo”) – Stuntwoman Damien Rider (“Cobra”) – Fitness Guru Harriet Roberts (“Arrow”) – Four-time CrossFit Games Athlete Jaymi Morris (“Chaos”) – Professional Powerlifter Jett Kenny (“Viking”) – Ironman Athlete Katelin van Zyl (“Raven”) – Three-time CrossFit Games Athlete Khan Porter (“Spartan”) – Seven-time CrossFit Games Athlete Kwame Duah (“Maximus”) – Professional Bodybuilder Sandor Earl (“Phoenix”) – Former National Rugby League (NRL) Player Tatyanna Dumas (“Comet”) – Ninja Warrior Winner No announcement has been made about the date of the first episode. The 2024 CrossFit Games Are Officially Coming to Texas

The 2024 CrossFit Games Are Officially Coming to Texas For the first time in their nearly 20-year existence, the CrossFit Games will take place in the Lone Star State. Dickies Arena, located in Fort Worth, Texas, will host the 2024 CrossFit Games, according to a series of announcements delivered on Sept. 19, 2023. “Fort Worth is a proven destination for high-profile events, and we’re excited to add to the growing number of sports and entertainment options at the state-of-the-art Dickies Arena,” CrossFit CEO Don Faul said in a press release. “Love of sport is in the DNA of most Texans, and we can’t think of a more enthusiastic audience for the Games.” More from Breaking Muscle: Best Barbells for Powerlifting, CrossFit, Olympic Weightlifting, and More Adapting and Thriving: An Interview with CrossFit Games Athlete Amy Bream Scheduled for Aug. 8-11, the 2024 CrossFit Games will offer “the experience of a lifetime for fans, athletes, affiliates, and partners,” per Faul. Not only does the venue have almost 30,000 square feet of event space, but it also has three standard levels of seating, including additional elevated viewing experiences on Dickies Arena’s suite and loge box levels. Besides providing a new city with a chance to host the sport’s preeminent event, the decision to take the 2024 Games in a different direction appears to be part of a long-term plan with global implications. “The move to Fort Worth is the first step for where we want to take the CrossFit Games,” said CrossFit General Manager of Sport and Education Dave Castro. “Just as we expect our athletes to adjust during competition, we’ll need to do the same as we rethink our execution so that we can bring the Games to not only more cities in the United States, but also consider expansion overseas.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rogue Fitness (@roguefitness) More from Breaking Muscle: Best Weightlifting Belts for CrossFit, Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, and More Is CrossFit Bad for You? 4 Points to Consider Before Stepping into a Box Moving the Games from Wisconsin, where it was held since 2017, to Texas means more than just a change of scenery. From a competitive standpoint, reigning champions Jeffrey Adler and Laura Horvath have another factor to consider as they prepare to defend their titles: the heat. The location for the 2024 Games has been one of the hottest areas in the country in recent months. According to AccuWeather, the average high temperature in Forth Worth from Aug. 8-11 of this year was 107 degrees Fahrenheit (41.7 degrees Celsius). Meanwhile, the average high temperature in Madison during the 2023 CrossFit Games around the same time was a relatively more tolerable 83.5 degrees Fahrenheit (28.6 degrees Celsius). Ultimately, such a stark difference in climate could have a significant impact on the outcome of the 2024 Games. According to CrossFit’s press release, further information about the upcoming season will be announced at a later date.
