Budget or Splurge? The Best Jeans for Midlife Women, Ranked by Price

Budget or Splurge? The Best Jeans for Midlife Women, Ranked by Price If you’ve ever stood in a dressing room with nine pairs of jeans in a pile and none of them fit, I see you. Jeans shopping in midlife can feel like a special kind of torture. The waist gaps, the rise hits in the wrong spot, and the “stretch” denim sags by lunch. Here’s what I want you to know: great jeans are not about how much you spend. I’ve found pairs I love for under $40 and pairs I love for over $200. I own both, and I wear both. So I’m walking you through all my favorites, starting with the most affordable and working up to the splurges. That way you can see there’s a great pair out there for every budget. No dressing room meltdown required. What I Look for in Jeans at 60 Before we get to the list, here’s my checklist. My body has changed a lot since my 40s (hello, post-menopause middle), so what I need from a pair of jeans has changed too. A mid or high rise that sits at my natural waist and doesn’t dig in when I sit down. Stretch that snaps back. A little stretch means comfort, but too much means baggy knees by 3 p.m. No waist gap in the back. If I need a belt just to keep them from gapping, they’re not the pair. A leg shape that works with my shoes. Straight leg is my everyday go-to, and wide leg and bootcut both earn a spot too. See my tips for styling wide leg pants in middle age! A wash I’ll actually wear. A medium or dark wash goes with everything and looks polished for dinner out. Read this twice: the size on the tag means nothing. Every brand fits differently, so buy the pair that fits the body you have today and cut the tag out if you need to! 1. Target Wide Leg Jeans Price: $28 Target has the best denim value going right now! They nailed these classic wide leg jeans. I love the fit and the wash and they come in at less than $30! SHOP THE JEANS 2. Target Barrel Jeans Price: $38 If barrel jeans sound like a trend you should sit out. I thought so too. But the shape is smart for a midlife body: the leg curves out through the thigh and tapers back in at the ankle, so it skims the widest part of your leg instead of gripping it. It’s all about the cut. Some brands are too “barrel-y” and better for the younger crowd. This pair is cut just right and not too stretchy. And the price is right! SHOP THE JEANS 3. Amazon Luvamia Cropped Wide Leg Jeans Price: $38.98 These come in white and other fun colors. The cropped wide leg length hits right above the ankle, which is one of the most flattering spots for showing off a great shoe, sandals, mules, and sneakers all look fantastic with these. The fit is relaxed and comfortable, the denim is lightweight and the price point makes it easy to grab multiple colors. (Trust me, you will want more than one!). SHOP THE JEANS 4. Target Palazzo Jeans Price: $40 I love these palazzo jeans from Target in both washes! They look great with so many different top and shoe pairings. SHOP THE JEANS 5. Amazon Cicy Bell Wide Leg Jeans Price: $41.99 These are a really solid everyday wide leg jean that fits well and washes great, two things that matter more than anything else in a denim pant you are going to reach for constantly. The high rise gives you a flattering silhouette, the wide leg falls cleanly, and they come in a range of washes so you can find the one that works best for your wardrobe. A reliable pair that earns its spot in your regular rotation. SHOP THE JEANS 6. Quince Wide Leg Jeans Price: $50 Quince is the sweet spot between budget and splurge, and I like it so much I’m sharing three pairs. The denim has real weight to it, which is the difference between wide leg jeans that look intentional and wide leg jeans that look like you gave up. They hold their shape all day instead of stretching out on you by 2 p.m. The best part? They work with a flat and with a low block heel. These are the pair I recommend first if you’re ready to move up from budget denim but aren’t ready to spend $200, start here. SHOP THE JEANS 7. Quince Barrel Jeans Price: $50 Barrel jeans are having a major moment and the Quince version is one of the best values out there. The barrel silhouette is relaxed through the hip and thigh and tapers slightly at the ankle, which gives you a cool, modern look that is different from a traditional wide leg. The quality is genuinely impressive for what they cost. SHOP THE JEANS 8. Quince Palazzo Jeans Price: $60 If you want more drama in your wide leg denim, this is the pair. The palazzo cut is a wider, more flowy silhouette than a traditional wide leg jean, and in denim it looks incredibly chic. These are the jeans that make people stop and ask where you got your pants. A simple fitted top and a heel or mule and you have a full outfit that looks like you spent a lot more money than you did. SHOP THE JEANS 9. Anthropologie Maeve Colette High-Rise Jeans Price: $130 There are great Amazon lookalikes for these viral Anthropologie Colette pants, but the originals can’t be ignored. I have both, and I honestly love and wear them both. These are more of a splurge, but worth every penny! SHOP THE JEANS 10. Rag & Bone Miramar Sweatpant Jeans Price: $228 These Rag & Bone sweatpant jeans have gone viral across all age groups. They make

The 5 Fall Shoe Trends I’m Actually Wearing at 60

The 5 Fall Shoe Trends I’m Actually Wearing at 60 I bought a gorgeous pair of boots two falls ago. Pointed toe, great heel, the kind of shoe that photographs beautifully and makes you feel about six inches taller walking into a restaurant. I wore them to dinner in downtown Minneapolis and took them off in the car on the way home. That was the last pair of shoes I ever bought without asking the only question that matters now: can I walk in these? Not “can I stand in these for 20 minutes and then sit down.” Can I walk through an airport, teach a class, run three errands, and still want to be a person by 4 p.m.? Here’s the good news about fall 2026. The trends are finally on our side. Designers are leaning into softer leathers, lower profiles, real footbeds, and shapes that have been around long enough to prove themselves. Almost everything trending right now is something you can walk miles in, which means you get to have the cute shoe and the working feet at the same time. I’ve pulled the five trends I think are worth your money this season, plus what to look for in each one so you don’t end up with my boot situation. 1. Birkenstock-Inspired Clogs: The Slip-On With Actual Arch Support If there’s one shoe that has taken over my fall rotation, it’s the clog. I keep a pair by the door because they’re the shoe I can shove my feet into when I’m running out for coffee or dropping something off. No bending over, no laces, and no decision-making at 7 a.m. What makes this trend actually work for us is the footbed. The Birkenstock-inspired styles have a contoured cork or molded footbed with real arch support built in, which is the opposite of what a flat, flimsy slide does to your feet after age 50. Your arches flatten a little as we age (nobody tells you that one), and a shoe with structure under the middle of your foot is the difference between feeling fine at the end of the day and feeling it in your knees. Look for a covered toe, a suede or soft leather upper, and a sole with some grip if you live somewhere that gets wet leaves and early snow like I do. Wear them with jeans and a chunky sweater, or with thick socks once it gets cold. The sock and clog combination stopped being controversial a few years ago, and I’m relieved. Rothy’s Casual Clog These are some of my all-time favorite clogs. My kids gifted me a pair to wear around the house, and I’ve bought another color since then because I love them so much! The Casual Clog for Women | Rothy s Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. Classic Birkenstock Clogs The classic clog style that has inspired the trend of the season. Great quality, great support! Soft Footbed Suede Leather Clogs | BIRKENSTOCK Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. Moccasin Style Clogs These memory foam clogs have non-slip soles with a lightweight water-resistance design. They are so comfortable and I’m loving them for fall! 100% Genuine Leather Moccasin Style Clogs $54.90 Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 09/18/2026 06:39 pm GMT Birkenstock Clogs Lookalikes These clogs from Amazon look and feel just like the real deal from Birkenstock. Ease yourself into this trend with a less expensive option that you’ll love just as much! Women’s Mules Clogs Cork Slip-On $21.99 Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 09/18/2026 06:41 pm GMT Quince Water Repellent Clogs Another great quality clog option from Quince, a brand I know and trust! Water Repellent Suede Clog Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 2. Loafers and Mules: Pulled Together Without Trying Loafers are having a serious moment and the softer, the better this year. Think suede, crinkle patent, and butter-soft leather instead of the stiff, structured versions that used to give you a blister across the top of your foot before you got to the parking lot. I love a loafer in fall because it does the thing I’m always chasing: it makes an outfit look intentional without asking anything of me. Jeans and a loafer read pulled together. Trousers and a loafer read like you have your life together, even on the days you don’t. Mules are the same idea with the back removed, and they’re the easier on and off option if you’re in and out of the house all day. One honest note. A backless shoe makes your foot grip a little to hold it on, so if you’re walking any real distance, go for the closed-back loafer and save the mule for the day that’s mostly sitting, driving, and looking good. What to look for: a cushioned insole (most brands say so right on the listing), a low block heel of an inch or less if you want a little lift, and a flexible sole you can bend with your hands. If the shoe won’t bend at all in the store, your foot is going to fight it all day. Rothy’s Penny Loafer These Rothy’s penny loafers are so comfortable. They have a soft knit upper with a contoured insole and heel padding for extra support. The Penny Loafer | Rothy’s Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. Rothy’s Daily Driver Loafer Just as comfortable as the previous pair but with a flexible rubber outsole with individual traction nods. They give a flexible and comfortable feel! 14 Fall Pants That Aren’t Leggings or Jeans (The Ones I Actually Wear at 60)

14 Fall Pants That Aren’t Leggings or Jeans (The Ones I Actually Wear at 60) The right pair of pants does more for how you feel walking into a room than any six weeks of eating “clean” ever did. I’m 60, I lift weights four days a week, and I love my body for what it can do. I also want my pants to fit like they were made for me. Both things get to be true! Here’s what started this whole post. Three different women, three separate conversations, have now described one specific pair of pants to me using the exact same phrase. They called them “the did you lose weight pant.” Not my words. Theirs, three times now. I’ll tell you which pair it is in about thirty seconds. But first, a confession about my closet. Somewhere along the way, wide leg pants became the thing I reach for every single day. For workouts, for errands, for dinner, for travel, for all of it. I wear them to teach my live fitness classes, to work at my desk (on my walking pad, obviously), to run errands, to dinner with my husband, and on every trip I take. They’re genuinely the most versatile thing I own right now, and I’m kind of obsessed with finding new great pairs. So I pulled together all of my current favorites. Athletic, casual, athleisure, dressy-ish, you name it. These are real picks that work on real midlife bodies. No fluff, no filler. (And yes, denim lovers, I see you. I’m doing a whole separate post on the best jeans for midlife bodies, because that conversation deserves its own room. This one is the no-leggings, no-jeans list.) The One Pair Everyone Keeps Asking Me About These are the “did you lose weight” pants I get asked about over and over. And let me tell you, they’re worth it! The Athleta Endless Pant That nickname isn’t mine, by the way. Those are the exact words I’ve heard, three times now. The rise sits where it should on a midlife body. High, smooth, and no waistband rolling down when you sit. The fabric holds you without squeezing you. Hello tummy control that doesn’t feel like a punishment. These read like real pants, not leggings with ambition. That distinction matters more than anything else on this list, because the whole point of a fall pant is that you can wear it to a restaurant and not feel like you came straight from the gym. If you buy one pair of pull-on pants this year, make it these! SHOP ATHLETA ENDLESS PANTS Now, before you close this tab and go buy them, keep scrolling. The pair I wore all over Greece with zero wrinkles is further down, and so is the $50 washable silk pair I did not believe in until I owned them. The Athletic Wide Leg Pants This is the category that changed my whole relationship with getting dressed in the morning. A true wide leg athletic pant means I can teach a class, walk on the pad, run errands, and meet a friend for lunch without changing once. CRZ Wide Leg Pants These are my pick if you want a true wide leg in an athletic pant. The fabric is smooth and compressive, the high-rise waistband sits right where you want it, and the wide leg actually moves like a wide leg, not a tapered pant pretending to be one. I wear these for teaching, for workouts, and for running around after. They hold up really well after washing too, which matters a lot to me. A pant that looks great the first month and sad by the third month isn’t a good deal at any price. SHOP CRZ Wide Leg pants Athleta Brooklyn Wide Leg Pant Athleta is one of my most trusted brands for athletic wear that actually fits a midlife body, and the Brooklyn is one of their best. The fabric has great compression without feeling tight, the rise is high enough to tuck into easily, and the wide leg falls beautifully. These are the pants I reach for when I want to feel put-together at the gym and not have to change before I head somewhere else after. Shop Athleta Brooklyn Pants G4Free Wide Leg Trouser Pants These have been a bestseller for years and for good reason. They’re incredibly comfortable, they wash beautifully, and they have that clean tailored look that works for the gym and way beyond. I’ll be honest with you: they run a little more straight-leg than a true wide leg. So if you want real drama in the silhouette, go with the CRZ above. But if you want a polished athletic trouser that goes from a workout to errands without a second thought, these are the ones. Shop Wide LEg Trouser Pants Athleta Wide Leg Track Pant A classic track pant silhouette done right. These are softer and more relaxed than a traditional compression athletic pant, which makes them great for lower-impact workouts, walks, yoga, or any day when you want to move comfortably without feeling squeezed. The wide leg gives them a modern feel that a standard track pant just doesn’t have. Easy on, easy off, out the door. Shop Athleta Track Pants Amazon Wide Leg Track Pants Another great pair of track pants, but from Amazon. These are 92% cotton and come with pockets too. Four inseam options so you can find your perfect length! SHOP AMAZON TRACK PANTS The Everyday Pull-On Pants (My Most-Worn Category) Linen, soft athleisure fabrics, relaxed cotton, flowy silhouettes. These are the pants I grab for errands, travel days (along with my other top travel must-haves!), casual lunches, work-from-home days, and weekends when I want to look like I tried without actually trying that hard. They sit in that sweet spot between workout wear and going-out wear, and every single one of them pairs beautifully with a fitted top, a simple tee, or a little cropped jacket. Comfortable

15 Things I’m Willing to Pay Full Price For (And 5 I’m Not)

15 Things I’m Willing to Pay Full Price For (And 5 I’m Not) I have expensive taste. I made peace with that a long time ago, and at 60 I’ve got a pretty clear list of what’s worth paying full price for. That doesn’t mean I spend without thinking. It means quality is the thing I actually care about, and after decades of shopping I’ve gotten very good at telling the difference between something that’s genuinely well made and something that was designed to look well made in a photo. Sometimes Amazon absolutely nails it. I’ve found Amazon lookalike pieces there I’ve worn for years, and I’ll shout about them all day long. But sometimes I go hunting for the dupe, I order it, I put it on, and I know in about four seconds that it’s not the same thing. The fabric is thinner. The hardware feels hollow. It’s fine, and fine wasn’t what I was after. When that happens, I buy the original and I pay full price, and I don’t feel one bit guilty about it. I’d rather own fewer things that are really good than a closet full of almost-right. So here’s my honest list: fifteen things I’ll pay full price for, and five where the less expensive version genuinely performs just as well (because that’s true too, and I’d never pretend otherwise). Some of these will surprise you (a phone case made the list, ladies). How I Decide What’s Worth Full Price Before we get to the list, here’s the filter I run everything through. Every one of these questions is about quality, and the price tag is just what comes out the other end. Is there a real dupe, or only a less expensive version? Those are two completely different things. A real dupe performs the same, and I will happily take it. A less expensive version just costs less, and you can feel that difference the second it’s on your body. Cost per wear. A great coat I wear 120 days a year in Minneapolis works out cheaper than a mediocre one I stop reaching for by January. Divide the price by how many times you’ll actually use it. That number tells the truth. Does it touch my body every day? A winter coat, my skincare, the tools I use every single morning. This is where quality shows up immediately. (Though as you’ll see below, there are a few of these where the lookalike genuinely wins, so I check rather than assume.) Would I be annoyed if it broke? If yes, buy the good one. If I’d shrug and replace it, the affordable one is doing its job just fine. Read this twice: paying full price isn’t about the label on it. It’s about buying the version that’s actually good so you’re not replacing it next year. 15 Things I’m Willing to Pay Full Price For Every one of these is something I own, use hard, and would buy again tomorrow at full price. 1. Aritzia Super Puff Coat I live in Minneapolis. I have opinions about winter coats, and this one is the best down jacket I’ve ever owned. Full stop. I’ve tried the cheaper puffers and they either flatten out by year two or leave you cold at the bus stop, and neither of those is acceptable when it’s 8 degrees and you still have to walk the dog. The SuperSnug Puff Mid Coat – Aritzia Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 2. Athleta Leggings (and Honestly Most of Their Clothes) I teach live group fitness classes every week and I’ve been doing it for 25 years, so I’ve worn every legging on the market. Athleta’s quality is just different. The fabric holds up wash after wash, the waistbands don’t roll, and they don’t go see-through in a squat (hello, the actual test that matters). Shop more of my Athleta fashion favorites! Athleta Elation Ultra High Rise 7/8 Legging Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 3. Lodge Pants I’ve genuinely looked for a dupe for these and I can’t find one. The fabric is the whole thing. Cheaper versions of this kind of pant always feel thin or stiff, and you can spot the difference the second you put them on. The Lodge Pant – Crepette Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 4. Anthropologie Colette Pants (the Printed Ones & Specialty Fabrics) The plain Colettes have dupes everywhere. The prints and specialty fabrics like corduroy do not. If you want an actual cute print or corduroy texture for all, Amazon is not going to get you there, and I’ve tried. These are the pants I reach for when I want to look put together without thinking about it. Colette Corduroy Full Length Pants – Anthropologie Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 5. Rag & Bone Sweatpant Jeans I want to love a cheaper version of these. I really do. But every knockoff I’ve tried looks like sweatpants pretending to be jeans, and these actually look good. Comfortable enough to travel in, structured enough to wear to lunch. Miramar Sport Stripe Track Pant | rag & bone Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 6. Rothy’s Clogs These are just good. Comfortable straight out of the box, easy to throw on, washable (which matters more than you think), and they go with everything I already own. The Casual Clog for Women | Rothy’s Buy Now We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you. 7. L’ange Hair Tools I use my L’ange tools to style my hair every single morning, and they have absolutely earned their spot on my counter. When

Summer to Fall Outfits: Fashion Finds You Can Wear Both Seasons

Summer to Fall Outfits: Fashion Finds You Can Wear Both Seasons It’s 85 degrees at lunch and 58 by the time you’re walking the dog after dinner. Sound familiar? This in-between season is the trickiest time of year to get dressed, and the most expensive if you’re buying separate wardrobes for each. You don’t need to. That’s the whole secret to summer to fall outfits: not new clothes, but pieces that pull double duty. The dress you wore with sandals in July looks brand new with a denim jacket and sneakers in October. Same piece, whole new outfit, zero extra dollars. Here in Minneapolis we can get all four seasons in one week (sometimes one DAY), so I’ve had a lot of practice building transitional fashion that works no matter what the thermometer says. Every find below is something I own and actually wear. You know my rule: I don’t recommend anything I haven’t tested myself. And most of these are Amazon, Target, or Quince finds, so they won’t blow your budget either. Let’s build a wardrobe that works as hard as you do. Dresses That Go From Summer to Fall A great dress is the hardest working piece in your closet.
